Kazakhstan refuses russia's participation in construction of strategic energy facilities - Center for Countering Disinformation
The government of Kazakhstan has announced that three thermal power plants in Kokshetau, Semey and Ust-Kamenogorsk will be built jointly with Chinese partners, not with russians, as previously planned. It was reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.
In 2024, the aggressor country russia and Kazakhstan signed an intergovernmental agreement on the joint construction of three thermal power plants with a russian contractor, but this year the agreement was reoriented to Chinese companies
The CCD notes that for the russian federation, joint energy projects are not only a business, but also a tool to promote its political influence and propaganda. The kremlin uses it most actively in the post-Soviet space and in Africa.
"Instead, Kazakhstan, after the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, despite the formal preservation of the strategic partnership, is gradually limiting Russia's influence. This applies to both economic and humanitarian issues. By replacing trade with Russia with cooperation with China, Kazakhstan is limiting the ability of Russian citizens to circumvent sanctions and at the same time plans to reduce the status of the Russian language," the Center emphasizes.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, according to the Center for Countering Disinformation, Kazakhstan is gradually abandoning the russian language.
