Police detained a 72-year-old man who had struck his neighbors with a hammer and an ax during a domestic quarrel. Five people were killed in the attack. This is stated in a report by the National Police of Ukraine on Tuesday, February 10.

The incident took place in a non-operational school equipped for the stay of IDPs. A social worker reported to the police at about 4:15 a.m. that her wards from the village of Sudobychi were hearing screams in the corridor.

"The police found out that around 4:10 a.m., at a common place of residence of internally displaced persons, a conflict arose between a 72-year-old native of the Donetsk Region and other residents over domestic issues, which escalated into a fight. During the fight, the man began to hit five people with a hammer and an ax," the statement said.

Five citizens were killed in the attack - two men and three women, including 60- and 68-year-old men, two women aged 81 and 78 from the Donetsk Region, and a 56-year-old woman from the Kirovohrad Region. The issue of serving a notice of suspicion to the man and choosing a measure of restraint is currently being decided.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in September 2025, a teacher in Sharhorod, Vinnytsia Region, who brutally killed two high school students, tried to cross the border with Moldova after the crime.
