Russia leaves its villages without Internet - intelligence
In the aggressor country of russia, the problem with access to high-speed Internet is getting worse: a significant part of fiber-optic networks has reached the end of its service life, and new fiber is practically not directed to civilian needs. In 2025, more than half of the main cables in the west-east direction will have reached the end of their warranty period. This is reported by the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine.
According to the Foreign Intelligence Service, by 2030, the russian federation needs to replace more than 400,000 kilometers of fiber-optic lines laid in the early 2000s. The cost of infrastructure renewal is estimated at hundreds of billions of rubles, while the capacity of key highways is already approaching critical limits.
Against this backdrop, fiber supplies from China have sharply increased. In 2025, russia consumed about 10% of the world's optical fibers, largely due to the mass production of FPV drones with cable control that are resistant to electronic warfare. Such drones are actively used in the war against Ukraine and account for up to 15% of global demand for fiber.
At the same time, the russian civilian population, especially in the villages, is left without normal Internet access. Residents of dozens of settlements are forced to use only mobile communications with traffic limits and a sharp drop in speed after they are exhausted.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, according to intelligence, by 2040 russia will turn into a "society of pensioners"
