Emergency power outages introduced in Ukrainian power grid: subway stops in Kyiv and Kharkiv, blackout in Moldova – authorities
On January 31, emergency power outages were reintroduced in Kyiv due to a failure in the energy system. Trains and escalators were temporarily suspended in the Kyiv subway. Moldova has also experienced problems with electricity amid disruptions in Ukraine's energy sector.
The Mayor of Kyiv Vitali Klitschko, Deputy Prime Minister of Moldova Andrei Spînu, and Minister of Energy Dorin Junghietu have informed about this.
According to the head of the capital, there are emergency power outages in Kyiv.
The subway traffic was stopped due to low voltage in the network. Underground subway stations can now operate as shelters on the backup power supply of the stations.
DTEK reported that emergency power outages were introduced in Kyiv and the region.
"Kyiv and the Kyiv Region: emergency blackouts were introduced by Ukrenergo's command. As a reminder, during emergency outages, schedules do not apply," the post says.
Also, as the Ukrainian News agency reported, emergency blackouts were introduced in the Odesa Region, where wire breaks and damage to power grid elements occurred due to ice freezing.
In addition, power engineers reported that emergency blackouts were also introduced in the Dnipropetrovsk Region at the command of Ukrenergo.
The Kharkiv subway also reported that due to technical reasons, train traffic on the subway lines was temporarily suspended.
"The resumption of traffic will be announced later," the message says.
According to the Moldovan Minister of Energy, the country has experienced an emergency shutdown of the electricity system. The reason is serious problems in the Ukrainian power grid.
"Due to serious problems in the Ukrainian power grid, on Saturday morning, a voltage drop occurred on the 400 kVIsaccea-Vulcănești-MGRES power line, which led to an emergency shutdown of the electricity system," the country's energy minister said.
In Moldova, trolleybuses have stopped and there are problems with cellular communication. This is observed both in the capital and in other cities of Moldova. The mayor of Chisinau wrote about the blackouts in most parts of the capital.
