UAH 253 million of bad debts repaid under refinancing loans to insolvent banks in 2025
In 2025, the National Bank of Ukraine received UAH 253.3 million to repay bad debts on refinancing loans to insolvent banks.
This is stated in the report of the NBU, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
Most of the funds came from the sale of property rights pledged by insolvent banks under loan agreements - UAH 202.0 million.
In addition, the debt on refinancing loans granted by the NBU was repaid by:
- sale of mortgaged real estate of guarantors of insolvent banks within the framework of enforcement proceedings - UAH 16.1 million;
- other sources of debt repayment - UAH 35.1 million.
Since 2015, the NBU has repaid almost UAH 20 billion in total of refinancing loans to insolvent banks. As of January 1, 2026, its balance is UAH 36.4 billion, so the NBU will continue to take measures to ensure the repayment of bad debts on refinancing loans to insolvent banks.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the decision to sell the pledged assets of insolvent banks is made by the Executive Directorate of the Deposit Guarantee Fund (DGF). As a secured creditor, the NBU has the right to propose other terms for the sale of pledged assets after receiving an official decision from the DGF's executive board. The assets are also sold by the DGF.
