A deputy commander of a battalion in the Sumy Region severely beat soldiers and mocked their execution to force them to remove a video of his threats from social media. This is stated in the report of the State Bureau of Investigation on Wednesday, January 21.

According to the investigation, two soldiers recorded a conversation with their commander on their cell phones, where he threatened to shoot them if they did not follow his instructions. One of the soldiers later posted the recording on a social network. After that, the battalion's deputy commander began to persecute the authors of the recording.

"To force them to delete the video and publicly apologize, he lined up two victims, took out his service pistol and fired five shots - under the feet and over the heads of the soldiers, imitating an execution. After that, the officer severely beat the soldiers with a military helmet, inflicting blows to the head and torso. As a result of the beating, one of the victims' meniscus was torn, and the helmet itself was deformed," the statement said.

When the video was still not deleted, the officer ordered to bring an assault rifle, shot a cell phone, and then shot one of the victims in the foot and ordered to register the injury as self-inflicted. The officer also hit another deputy battalion commander in the head because of a work-related conflict. He faces up to 12 years in prison for his actions.
