US Senator Lindsey Graham announced that US President Donald Trump has supported a bipartisan bill on strengthening sanctions against the russian federation.

Graham wrote about this on the social network X.

"After a very productive meeting today with President Trump on a variety of issues, he greenlit the bipartisan Russia sanctions bill that I have been working on for months with Senator Blumenthal and many others," the senator wrote.

According to Graham, the adoption of such a decision is extremely relevant against the background of the war in Ukraine. He emphasized that Kyiv is demonstrating a willingness to compromise for the sake of peace, while the Kremlin, according to him, is only imitating negotiations.

"This will be well-timed, as Ukraine is making concessions for peace and putin is all talk, continuing to kill the innocent," the senator noted.

Graham also explained that the bill provides for the expansion of the US President's powers to pressure countries that continue to buy russian oil.

"This bill would give President Trump tremendous leverage against countries like China, India and Brazil to incentivize them to stop buying the cheap russian oil that provides the financing for putin's bloodbath against Ukraine," he stressed.

Graham added that he expects strong bipartisan support for the document in the Senate and hopes that a vote can take place soon.

"I look forward to a strong bipartisan vote, hopefully as early as next week," the senator concluded.
