The Air Forces of Ukraine have strengthened the air defense with two additional Patriot air defense systems. The delivery was carried out by agreement with Berlin. It was reported by the Ministry of Defense.

This transfer is part of a large-scale defense strategy: according to the decision of Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Germany will allocate a record EUR 11.5 billion to help Ukraine in 2026. Currently, Patriot systems remain the main means of countering russian ballistic missiles.

The Ministry of Defense emphasized the main advantages of the system:

The main feature of the system is the ability to intercept hypersonic missiles such as Zircon and Kinzhal, whose speed can reach 11,000-16,000 km/h. The effectiveness is ensured by the use of PAC-3 MSE anti-missiles operating on the principle of direct contact with the target and a high-precision radar capable of tracking up to 100 objects simultaneously.

The complex can track eight targets in parallel, operating at a distance of up to 160 km and an altitude of up to 24 km. The high level of automation allows the system to respond to threats almost instantly, which is critical for protecting civilians and energy infrastructure from combined attacks. The new installations are already integrated into the defense system and are performing combat missions.

Recall that Defense Minister Shmyhal stated that the PURL initiative has become a key source of ammunition for Ukraine's air defense, providing about 75% of all missiles for Patriot systems and almost 90% of missiles for other air defense systems supplied to Kyiv.

As reported earlier, Ukraine has received the air defense systems promised by Germany and personally by Chancellor Friedrich Merz
