Either it will end, or it will continue for very long time - Trump at meeting with Zelenskyy
US President Donald Trump said that the Ukrainian-russian war will either end or last for a very long time. He said this at a meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at his Mar-a-Lago residence.
In the video broadcast by the media, you can see that Trump and Zelenskyy talked a little with journalists. Negotiations between the Ukrainian and American teams have already begun, but are taking place behind closed doors.
"It'll either end or it's going to go on for a long time, and millions of additional people are going to be killed. Millions," Trump said.
The US president also said that he was confident in the seriousness of russian dictator vladimir putin's intentions to end the war.
"I do believe that we have the makings of a deal that's good for Ukraine, that's good for everybody. There's nothing more important. I ended 8 wars," Trump said.
The American leader added that he and Zelenskyy "will have a great meeting."
"This gentleman fought very bravely. He is very brave and his people are very brave. What they went through... No nation... Very rarely has any nation faced something like this," the US president added.
Trump also said that after talks with Zelenskyy, he intends to call putin. A conversation with European leaders is also planned.
He was asked if he was ready to sign an agreement on security guarantees for Ukraine.
"It depends on how we have the agreement <...> No one even knows what will be written in this agreement. But there will be an agreement, it will be a strong agreement and the Europeans will be very involved in it," Trump said.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on December 28, Trump said that he had a "good" and "productive" conversation with putin. The US president and the russian dictator spoke on the phone a few hours before Zelenskyy's arrival.
