The publication writes that the meeting of the leaders of the two countries is a sign of significant progress in the negotiations. Trump previously said that he would meet with Zelenskyy only if he felt a peace agreement was approaching. In addition, the planned meeting will take place after talks in Florida between Trump advisers Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner with leading negotiators from russia and Ukraine.

"We have gone as far as we can with the russians and Ukrainians. In the last two weeks, we have made more progress than in the last year. We want to put the ball in the net. We are moving in the right direction," the American official said.

According to another senior American official, the talks with Umerov and russian Ambassador Kirill Dmitriev were "positive and constructive."
