Russians use power outages in Ukraine for information special operations - Center for Countering Disinformation
A hostile disinformation campaign is being recorded online, which spreads speculative, manipulative and false theses about power outages in Ukraine. This is reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD).
Thus, russian and Ukrainian resources disguised as Ukrainian resources are reportedly spreading the claim that the Ukrainian authorities "unfairly distribute electricity between the regions", which is why the eastern regions are left without electricity, while in the west "cafes are glowing". The old propaganda narrative that Ukraine "sells electricity to the EU while its citizens are without electricity" is also being spread.
The Center reminded that according to the official reports of the Ministry of Energy, Ukraine does not export electricity. All available generation in the country is currently used exclusively to cover domestic consumption.
"The spread of such narratives is a typical example of an enemy information operation. The goal is to provoke a split in society, destabilize the internal situation and sow conflict between residents of different regions of Ukraine," the Center for Countering Disinformation emphasized.
The Center emphasized that the only reason for the blackouts is the russian terrorist attacks on the energy infrastructure. And the difference in the scale of blackouts between regions is explained by the fact that the enemy deliberately attacks not only generation facilities, but also power transmission lines between Ukrainian regions.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, according to the Center for Countering Disinformation, in the aggressor country of russia cases of disconnection of the home Internet were recorded when using VPNs.
