NATO still has no consensus on Ukraine's membership - Rutte
There is currently no consensus in the North Atlantic Alliance on Ukraine's possible accession. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said this at a press conference on the eve of a meeting of NATO foreign ministers at the Alliance's headquarters in Brussels, Belgium. His words were quoted by Reuters on Tuesday, December 2.
Rutte noted that there is currently no consensus that is necessary for Ukraine to join the alliance.
"The practical situation, as you know, is that all allies must reach a consensus for Ukraine to join NATO. And now, as you know, there is no consensus on Ukraine's accession to NATO," the NATO Secretary General told reporters.
Reuters reminded that a meeting of NATO foreign ministers will take place tomorrow, December 3.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on November 27, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated that the aggressor country of russia has no veto power over Ukraine's future membership in the Alliance.
