Parliament may increase mandatory bioethanol content in gasoline from 5% to 7% from July 2026
The Energy Committee of the Verkhovna Rada proposes to postpone fines for non-compliance with the norm of at least 5% bioethanol in motor gasoline from January 1 to July 1, 2026, and to raise the requirements for bioethanol content to 7%.
Interfax Ukraine writes about this, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
The corresponding amendment was proposed to the draft law on improving the mechanism of "green" auctions (No. 13219), adopted in the first reading in August 2025.
"We are postponing the fines from January 1 so that there are no fines for non-use of biobased gasoline for six months again. From July 1, the fines will be returned and the bioethanol content should be at least 7%," commented Andrii Herus, Chairman of the Energy Committee.
According to Herus, it will be easier for fuel market participants to import the resource from Europe, as they produce more fuel with a higher than 5% bioethanol content.
For violation of this rule, a fine of 6 subsistence minimums for able-bodied persons for every 1000 liters of gasoline sold was envisaged.
In the EU, the share of bioethanol in gasoline has been at least 10% since 2010.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on June 18, the Verkhovna Rada passed a law abolishing fines for non-compliance with the mandatory bioethanol requirement.
A requirement came into force on May 1 that all gasoline with an octane rating of less than 98 must contain 5% bioethanol.
