Consultations on the "peace plan" in Geneva with the participation of representatives of Ukraine, the United States and Europe should only agree on its details. The final decision and approval of the document depends on a personal meeting between Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump. It was reported by Reuters.
The American peace plan has caused considerable concern not only in Kyiv but also among European partners. Today's meeting in Geneva is organized to discuss this draft, which, according to the newspaper, in its initial form calls for Ukraine to cede territory, limit its defense capabilities, and abandon its intentions to join NATO.
An unnamed US official told reporters that a powerful US delegation, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, has arrived in Geneva. A key participant is Steve Witkoff, Trump's special envoy and likely co-author of the high-profile 28-point "peace plan."
American official expressed hope that the talks will be able to "iron out the final details...to draft a deal that is advantageous to them (Ukraine)." However, he added that "nothing will be agreed on" until Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump meet in person.
Today's talks in Geneva between American and Ukrainian officials will last all day in various formats. According to the source, the consultations started yesterday and were constructive.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Yermak said that the Ukrainian delegation had started negotiations with European countries in Geneva.
