Due to shelling on November 19, Ukrainian NPPs further reduced generation - IAEA
As a result of a massive russian attack on the morning of November 19, the Khmelnytskyi and Rivne nuclear power plants were forced to further reduce their electricity generation. IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi has stated this in his speech to the Board of Governors, the organization reports.
He emphasized that the situation at the three government-controlled nuclear power plants remains unstable. After the attacks, four of the nine reactors were forced to reduce their capacity
The Khmelnytskyi and Rivne NPPs have been reducing power generation since the beginning of November due to the military operations. However, the attacks on November 19 led to a new restriction: both power plants were forced to further reduce generation after each lost connection to one of their high-voltage power lines.
The South Ukraine NPP also lost its connection to a high-voltage power line.
As a reminder, two of Ukraine's nuclear power plants, Khmelnytskyi and Rivne, were forced to reduce electricity production after russian troops attacked a critical electrical substation. This mode of operation has been in place for ten days.
Ukraine's Foreign Ministry said there are reasons to believe that russian strikes on substations critical to powering the nuclear power plant were planned, representatives of the hostile Rosatom are involved in planning the attacks on the substations critical to the power supply of the nuclear power plant.
