Spain preparing new defense package: Madrid will allocate EUR 1 billion for purchase of weapons for Ukraine
Spain plans to allocate EUR 1 billion for the purchase of American military equipment to be transferred to Ukraine in the near future. According to El Pais, Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares said this in a statement.
According to him, the new defense package will complement the previously announced assistance for Ukraine's energy infrastructure and should strengthen Ukraine's air defense system.
Recall that this is Zelenskyy's third visit to Spain. Earlier, the Ukrainian President expressed confidence that the visit to Spain would open a new stage of cooperation with one of Kyiv's key partners. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez announced his intention to join the PURL program, which provides for the purchase of American weapons for Ukraine at the expense of European states.
