Cabinet approves list of states whose citizens acquire Ukrainian citizenship in simplified procedure
The Cabinet of Ministers approved the list of states whose citizens acquire Ukrainian citizenship in a simplified procedure. This is stated in resolution No. 1412 of November 5, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
In particular, simplified acquisition of Ukrainian citizenship is provided for citizens of:
Canada
Germany
Poland
United States of America
Czech Republic.
The resolution enters into force simultaneously with the entry into force of the Law "On Amendments to Certain Laws of Ukraine Regarding Ensuring the Implementation of the Right to Acquire and Preserve Ukrainian Citizenship" of June 18, 2025 (Law on Multiple Citizenship), i.e. January 16, 2026.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the law on multiple citizenship, initiated by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and adopted by the Verkhovna Rada on June 18, comes into force six months from the date of its publication in the official parliamentary publication Holos Ukrainy on July 16 - January 16, 2026.
In particular, the law provides for the acquisition of Ukrainian citizenship in a simplified procedure by foreigners who are citizens (subjects) of states whose citizens (subjects) acquire Ukrainian citizenship in a simplified procedure, and the acquisition by a citizen of Ukraine of citizenship (nationality) of states whose citizens (subjects) acquire Ukrainian citizenship in a simplified procedure.
According to Article 4 of the Constitution of Ukraine, there is a single citizenship in Ukraine, the grounds for the acquisition and termination of Ukrainian citizenship are determined by law.
Amendments to the Constitution during martial law are impossible.
The Ministry of National Unity reported that the law on multiple citizenship gives Ukrainians the right to officially obtain citizenship of another country without renouncing their Ukrainian one.
