In an interview for a russian publication in May 2022, he stated: "Don't give a damn about sanctions. We need to sing, dance, give concerts. Especially since we have a big country."
At the same time, in the same interview, he spoke about the situation after the introduction of international sanctions against russia, stating that "He cannot go abroad...". In particular, due to sanctions, he had to rest in russia, and not abroad.
"Not that much. But no, no... Favorite Western countries are Spain and Italy. If we talk about russia, then it's the Moscow Oblast, Sochi," Nikolaev said.
He added that there are "many beautiful places in the russian federation that you can discover for yourself."
He also called himself a patriot.
"Whoever left, it means he is against us, it means he or she has no way back to russia, all concert venues here should be closed. There - work, and there can be no way back for him or her. I am a patriot," he said.
