Kyiv will produce about 100 MW of electricity to support critical infrastructure - Klitschko

Kyiv continues to work on increasing energy independence. In particular, it plans to generate an additional 100 MW of electricity using cogeneration units. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced this after visiting several energy facilities in the capital.

"Kyiv continues to implement the concept of distributed cogeneration. Already this winter, the installation of cogeneration units will allow us to generate an additional 100 MW of electricity for the uninterrupted operation of critical infrastructure facilities. This is a unique experience that we have to gain in times of war," said Vitali Klitschko.

The mayor noted that the city managed to eliminate the consequences of missile attacks on energy facilities in 2023 and restore the electricity production capacity lost then.

"We went through the heating season in 2024 quite steadily and started heating as planned in October 2025. Unfortunately, in parallel with the start of the heating season, city services are eliminating the consequences of new massive attacks that the enemy launched against critical infrastructure this fall. The work to restore the equipment damaged by enemy shelling continues almost around the clock," Klitschko emphasized

At the same time, the connection of city buildings to heating continues. Currently, almost 90% of residential buildings managed by municipal management companies are connected to the heating system. And all other houses have the possibility of prompt connection, Vitali Klitschko said.

Earlier, the mayor of the capital warned that the 2025/26 heating season could be the most difficult for all the years of the war.
