Ukraine's accession to EU: European Commission recognizes progress but points to 'negative trends' - Reuters
The European Commission has recognized Ukraine's significant progress on its way to the European Union, but emphasized the need to accelerate reforms. According to Reuters, the draft report, which is scheduled to be adopted on November 4, says that Kyiv demonstrates "remarkable commitment to the EU accession path", but must strengthen the fight against corruption, reform the judiciary and guarantee the independence of anti-corruption bodies.
Brussels expressed concern about "negative trends" - pressure on anti-corruption structures and threats to civil society. The European Commission calls on Ukraine to address these problems, as they could slow down accession negotiations
Despite the support of most EU countries, the process is being blocked by Hungary. Ukraine aims to complete the negotiations by 2028, but for this, as the European Commission emphasized, it is necessary to accelerate reforms in the field of justice and the rule of law.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Hungary wants to form an "anti-Ukrainian" alliance with Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
