Two North Korean army soldiers who fought against Ukraine on the side of the aggressor country russia and were captured have asked to be granted the right to live in South Korea.

According to Barron's, this is stated in the material of the French news agency AFP.

The North Korean soldiers made the request during an interview for a documentary film organized by the Gyeore-eol Nation United organization. The interview took place on October 28 in Kyiv at an undisclosed location where DPRK army soldiers are being held after being captured.

"The two (POWs) asked the producer at the end of the interview to take them to the South (to South Korea - ed.) <...> They pleaded with the interviewer to promise she would return to bring them to the South," said Jang Se-yul, head of the organisation which works with North Korean defectors.

The documentary has not yet been made public, but Jang said it will be released in the coming weeks. He showed reporters photos of one of the captured DPRK soldiers reading letters from refugees now living in South Korea.

It is noted that under the South Korean constitution, all Koreans are considered citizens, including those living in the DPRK. Earlier, Seoul said that this also applies to North Korean soldiers who were taken prisoner by Ukraine.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on January 11, 2025, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said, that the Ukrainian Defense Forces took prisoner two DPRK army soldiers who fought against Ukraine on the side of russia.

Recall that in an interview with the South Korean newspaper Chosun, the prisoners said that they did not know that they were sent to fight against Ukraine. They thought they were fighting South Korean soldiers.
