Canada wants to seize russian transport plane and hand it over to Ukraine
Canada plans to seize a russian transport plane An-124, which has been parked at Toronto airport for almost four years. It belongs to the Volga-Dnepr company, which is under Canadian sanctions.
This was reported by Bloomberg with reference to Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand.
The plane was seized after the start of a full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the aggressor country of russia. According to Anand, this was done to exclude its possible use against Ukraine.
"Russia completely destroyed the Ukrainian Antonov planes that were in Ukraine at the beginning of the war. In a sense, this will be a replenishment of its fleet of aircraft," the agency quotes her as saying.
Bloomberg writes that if the Canadian authorities win the seizure lawsuit, the plane may be handed over to Ukraine.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in September 2023, Ukraine nationalized the engines for the An-124 Ruslan aircraft. They belonged to the Belarusian Ministry of Defense and the russian company Volga-Dnepr.
