White House not ruling out Trump-putin meeting, but demands results

A possible meeting between US President Donald Trump and vladimir putin will only take place if it is productive. This was stated by White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt.

She reported that a meeting between Trump and putin "is not completely ruled out", but the US wants to make sure that the President uses his time effectively for it.

"I think the President and the entire administration hope that one day it can happen again. But we want to make sure that this meeting will yield tangible positive results and that the President uses his time effectively for it," she added.

According to the White House representative, Trump's decision to cancel the meeting with putin was dictated not only by negotiations between russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, but also by other factors.

"The President wants to see action, not just talk. And I think the President is extremely motivated by the success of his Middle East peace deal to get results, and he wants this war to end. He's been saying this for nine months now, in office, and he's increasingly frustrated with the lack of progress on both sides of this war," Leavitt said.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, putin gave his version of the breakdown of the meeting with Trump in Budapest.

The White House also announced the date of the talks between Trump and Xi Jinping.
