Ukraine expects to receive the first Swedish Gripen fighters in 2026. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announved this on the Telegram social network, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

Zelenskyy spoke about the meeting with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson. According to him, one of the key topics of the negotiations was strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities.

"We consider the JAS 39 Gripen aircraft as one of the most effective elements of this and expect to receive the first Gripens as early as 2026," he said.

According to him, today Ukraine is opening a new and very meaningful page in Ukraine's relations with Sweden and in general security relations in Europe.

Zelenskyy reported that today the first document was signed with Sweden, which paves the way for Ukraine to receive a serious fleet of Swedish-made Gripen combat aircraft.

According to him, Ukraine expects that the upcoming contract will allow it to receive at least 100 such aircraft.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Ukraine and Sweden intend to conclude a contract for the production and supply of 100 to 150 fourth-generation multi-role fighters JAS 39 Gripen to Kyiv.
