US warns of threat of Gaza ceasefire disruption due to possible Hamas attack

Washington has expressed concern about a possible violation of the peace agreement in the Gaza Strip, warning of the risk of a new attack by the Hamas group.

According to a statement by the US Department of State, the US side has sent an official warning to the countries-guarantors of the ceasefire. It refers to reliable intelligence indicating the preparation of a new attack against the civilian population.

The Department of State stressed that such a step would be a serious violation of the agreements and could destroy the fragile balance achieved after lengthy international negotiations.

"The planned attack would jeopardize the significant progress achieved through international mediation," the document says.

Washington also called on the countries-guarantors of the peace agreement to ensure that Hamas fully fulfills its obligations under the current ceasefire.

The statement emphasizes that in the event of an attack, the international community will take measures to protect civilians in Gaza and maintain the ceasefire.

The United States and its allies have confirmed their readiness to continue efforts to maintain stability and security in the Middle East.

Meanwhile, tensions in the region are rising: Israel has temporarily closed the Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt, saying it will only open after Hamas hands over the bodies of the deceased Israeli hostages.

At the same time, the domestic political situation in Israel is escalating - National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has threatened to withdraw from the government coalition if the Prime Minister does not fulfill his demands to eliminate Hamas and introduce the death penalty for convicted terrorists.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on October 8, Israel and Hamas agreed on the first step of a ceasefire plan. It provides for the release of hostages and captured Hamas militants.

As a reminder, on March 19, the Israel Defense Forces launched a limited ground operation in the Gaza Strip with the aim of forcing Hamas to release the hostages.
