Trump refuses to provide Tomahawk to Zelenskyy, considering diplomacy priority - media
According to Axios, US President Donald Trump told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a tense meeting on Friday that he had no intention of providing long-range Tomahawk missiles, at least not yet, because he considers diplomacy a priority.
This was reported by Axios, citing sources familiar with the course of the Trump-Zelenskyy meeting.
The publication notes that Zelenskyy had hoped to leave Washington with promises of new weapons for Ukraine, but it turned out that Trump was in a completely different mood the next day after a long phone conversation with russian president vladimir putin.
According to Axios sources, Trump made it clear that his priority now is diplomacy, and he believes that providing Tomahawks could undermine it.
One of the sources said that the meeting "was not easy," while another called it "bad."
"No one was yelling, but Trump was tough," one of the sources told Axios.
"Trump made some strong statements during the meeting, and at some points it got a little emotional," the unnamed spokesperson said.
Axios added that the meeting ended abruptly after 2.5 hours.
"I think we're done. We'll see what happens next week," Trump said, referring to the planned talks between the United States and russia.
