In Odesa Region, truck runs over two soldiers standing near checkpoint: they are killed

This morning, on October 17, a fatal road accident occurred near the village of Sukhyi Lyman, killing two servicemen aged 34 and 36. It was reported by the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Odesa Region.

"It has been preliminarily established that a 63-year-old truck driver ran over two servicemen who were near a mobile checkpoint. The driver explained that he did not notice them. Unfortunately, one victim died on the spot, the other - in an ambulance on the way to the hospital," the statement said.

The driver was tested for intoxication and found to be sober.

Police are establishing all the circumstances of the incident. The issue of registering the information in the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations and detaining the driver in a procedural manner is being resolved.

Ukrainians were warned that traffic on the section of the road where the accident occurred is hampered.

Recently, actor and soldier Oleksii Nakonechnyi died in an accident, having not reached a kilometer to the military unit.
