Ukrainian apples ready to go to Canada

Ukrainian apples are being exported to the Canadian market for the first time.

This is stated in a report by the EastFruit project, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

The report states that depending on the region of Ukraine, the apple harvest in the current season is either similar to last year's or lower.

As noted by the representative of the Ukrainian apple exporter Volodymyr Hurzhiy from USPA Fruit, the situation in the main apple growing regions is different, since the frosts came in waves and fell on different stages of flower and fruit development, and therefore in some regions of Ukraine the harvest can be considered normal, while in others the yield is halved.

Hurzhiy noted that Ukrainian apples are becoming increasingly popular and the apple shortage in Europe may contribute to an increase in current demand.

Almost all target markets are quite active, many new applications are coming in.

Hurzhiy added that several years ago they initiated the process of opening the Canadian market for the export of Ukrainian apples.

As a result, the Canadian side confirmed and agreed on the necessary conditions.

Thus, the first batches of Ukrainian apples are expected to be sent to Canada this season.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in early March, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the State Food and Consumer Protection Service of Ukraine held successful negotiations with the Canadian side, as a result of which the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) approved the program for the export of fresh apples from Ukraine to Canada.
