Erdogan can help end russia's war against Ukraine - US President

US President Donald Trump said that Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan is capable of helping end russia's war against Ukraine.

Trump made the statement during a briefing aboard Air Force One, which he was returning to Washington after a visit to the Middle East.

"Yes, Erdogan can. Russia respects him. As for Ukraine - I can't tell you, but putin respects him. And he's my friend. You know, you can understand why - I get along well with those who are strong. I don't get along with the weak. I get along with the strong. I don't know why," the US President said.

"You know, when NATO has a problem with Erdogan, which happens a lot, they call me and ask to talk to him. And I've never failed - everything is resolved literally instantly," Trump noted.

Earlier, Trump emphasized that Erdogan is respected in both Moscow and Kyiv, so he can play a key role in a peaceful settlement, especially if Turkey refuses to purchase russian energy resources.

Washington, in turn, is negotiating with Ankara to stop importing russian oil. In exchange, the United States may offer Turkey a return to the F-35 fighter jet production and supply program.

Recall that Turkey will continue to purchase oil and gas from russia.
