French journalist killed by russian UAV in Donetsk Region
French journalist Antoni Lallican was killed as a result of an FPV drone strike by russian occupiers on a group of media workers in the Donetsk Region.
The head of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU) Serhii Tomilenko announced this.
According to him, the incident took place today, October 3, near the town of Druzhkivka in the north of the Donetsk Region. Along with the Frenchman, Ukrainian journalist Heorhii Ivanchenko was hit by a UAV and injured.
According to the NUJU, the journalists were working in protective gear and accompanied by a press officer of the 4th separate heavy mechanized brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Lallican had military accreditation from the Hans Lucas agency, which cooperates with well-known French media.
Tomilenko added that this is the third French journalist killed by the occupiers in Ukraine since the start of the full-scale invasion.
The 38-year-old journalist arrived in Ukraine in March 2022. He returned several times, documenting the consequences of the russian invasion.
Lallican also presented a photo exhibition "And Suddenly the Sky Darkened..." - a project dedicated to the residents of the Donetsk Region, which was at the epicenter of russian aggression.
"In his work, he combined the hard documentary style of news photography with quiet, intimate moments of everyday life. From a portrait of a Ukrainian boxer, in whose eyes you can read the pain of losing loved ones, to a soldier firing a mortar, to a long column of civilians crossing a destroyed bridge in the snow, his photographs built a bridge between the viewer and the reality of war," Tomilenko wrote.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in May this year, the international organization Reporters Without Borders and the Ukrainian human rights organization Truth Hounds presented a report, in which accused the russian army of targeted attacks on hotels where journalists are staying.
