Zelenskyy asks Trump for Tomahawk cruise missiles — The Telegraph
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has asked US President Donald Trump to provide Ukraine with Tomahawk cruise missiles. This happened during a closed meeting of leaders on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.
The British newspaper The Telegraph reported this, citing its own sources.
The publication's unnamed interlocutors said that during the conversation, Zelenskyy told Trump that providing Ukraine with Tomahawk missiles would allow russian dictator vladimir putin to sit at the negotiating table.
The Telegraph's sources said that the meeting between Zelenskyy and Trump was extremely positive. They did not specify how the American leader reacted to the request for the missiles.
Later, Zelenskyy said on The Axios Show that he had asked Trump to provide Ukraine with "an additional weapons system."
According to Zelenskyy, such a system could probably force Putin to negotiate, even without the need to use it.
"We need it, but that doesn't mean we'll use it. Because if we have it, I think it will put additional pressure on Putin to come to the negotiating table," Zelenskyy said.
He added that during the conversation, Trump told him that Ukraine must respond to russia. Not only for strikes on energy infrastructure, but also on military facilities. At the same time, the Ukrainian leader noted that these facilities are well protected by air defense systems, such protection is difficult to bypass with drones.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, back in October 2024, The New York Times wrote that Ukraine had asked the United States for Tomahawk missiles.
