Partial lunar eclipse will occur today: will Ukrainians see it

Today, September 21, a partial solar eclipse will occur, which will be visible only to part of the Earth, including Ukrainians will not be able to see it in the sky. However, a broadcast is available to watch the astronomical phenomenon. During a partial eclipse, the sun will look as if its disk has been "bitten off".

Ukrainian News Agency will tell you about this.

During a partial solar eclipse, the Moon, Sun and Earth do not line up in a perfectly straight line, and the Moon casts only the outer part of its shadow, the penumbra, on the Earth. From Earth, it looks as if the Moon has bitten off part of the Sun.

Looking at any solar eclipse without protective glasses is dangerous for the eyes, as the Sun's ultraviolet radiation can burn the retina of the eyes, leading to permanent damage or even blindness. The best way to safely observe a total solar eclipse is to wear protective glasses. However, it is worth remembering that on September 21, the eclipse is partial and visually a significant part of the sun will remain in the sky.

This eclipse will be visible from New Zealand, as well as from a narrow strip of the eastern coast of Australia, various Pacific islands and parts of Antarctica. New Zealanders, in particular, will see it at dawn on September 22.

In general, most people will not be able to see it directly in the sky, including Ukrainians. However, a broadcast of the astronomical phenomenon is available.

It will begin at about 08:29 pm Kyiv time, and will reach its maximum at 10:41 pm. The end of the eclipse will be at 00:53 am.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on September 7, Ukrainians saw a total lunar eclipse in the sky, when the celestial body turned blood-red. This year's September eclipse was dark and intense.
