Polish border guards discover underground passage on Belarusian border, expel 4 illegal immigrants
Polish border guards have discovered an underground tunnel near the border post in the village of Narewka, Podlaskie Voivodeship, through which four foreigners tried to enter the country from Belarus.
Border guards detained the illegal immigrants and sent them back, the regional border management reported. The incident occurred on September 19.
The attempt to illegally cross the border was prevented thanks to an electronic barrier system on the border with Belarus, authorities said. According to the border guard service, the tunnel through which the illegal immigrants wanted to enter Poland began in a forest on the Belarusian side.
"Despite the fact that the border area on the Belarusian side is a zone accessible only to Belarusian services, migrants still appear there with their consent, trying to illegally enter Poland," the department said.
The entrance to the tunnel was located in the area of the Narewka River, where border guards monitor an electronic barrier around the clock, the Polsat News portal notes.
