US President's Special Envoy Kellogg explains why Trump gives putin so many two-week deadlines - media
US President's Special Envoy Keith Kellogg has explained that White House leader Donald Trump has been giving russian dictator vladimir putin several two-week deadlines to conclude a peace deal with Ukraine, trying to use all the chances of a diplomatic end to the war.
The general told The Telegraph that he considers himself an optimist, which is why he is convinced that an agreement will still be concluded. However, he himself would like it to be preceded by a complete ceasefire, while the American President does not consider this mandatory.
The main problem, according to Kellogg, is that putin is convinced that he is winning, which is why he is not agreeing to peace yet. Meanwhile, Trump always prefers peace talks at the beginning, although Kellogg himself is initially inclined to a "ceasefire", saying that "once it stops, it is difficult to restore it".
"Trump is trying to give diplomacy every chance. He said he could stop the war in 24 hours... He quickly realized that it was more difficult than expected - personalities matter. The Ukrainians are ready for a deal, but putin is not," Kellogg comments on the situation. "He (putin, - ed.) is being misled. He, unfortunately, thinks he will win this war, but he is not. So Trump is just giving him freedom of action and time to sit down at the negotiating table, but we still hold the cards in our hands."
