In Parliament, there are calls for MPs not to increase budget deficit even more
MPs should be restrained in their proposals and not increase the budget deficit.
This was called for by the head of the budget committee of the Verkhovna Rada, Roksolana Pidlasa.
She noted that 1/3 of all defense money in 2026 will go to weapons. National security and defense are the main priority of the budget - the draft budget for 2026 provides for these needs UAH 2.8 trillion.
"More than half of the expenses - about 45% - are planned financial support for military personnel. A record UAH 955 billion (1/3 of all defense funds) are planned to be spent on the purchase and production of weapons," she wrote on Facebook.
"Next year, we will give every hryvnia earned and borrowed in Ukraine for the needs of national security and defense," the head of the budget committee emphasized.
"Currently, international partners do not allow us to use the money they give to the budget for the purchase of weapons (except for the UK grant) and financial support for military personnel," she reminded.
At the same time, all non-military expenditures are within the state budget deficit. The need for international financing is USD 45.5 billion, of which USD 18 billion is an unmet need.
"Since the beginning of the war, we have been forced to make significant borrowings to balance the budget. As a result, the state debt continues to grow and by the end of next year may reach 101.6% of the forecast GDP (versus 43.3% in 2021)," Pidlasa noted.
"This situation will persist until the end of active hostilities, while we will direct about 60% of our budget to defense," she added.
"Therefore, I called on my fellow MPs to be restrained in their proposals and not to increase the budget deficit even further," the committee chair explained.
