Technical network of major European airports disrupted by cyberattack
The check-in and boarding systems at a number of European airports have been the victims of a cyberattack: the airports in Berlin and Brussels were hit the worst.
This is reported by the Spiegel magazine portal.
The Berlin airport reported that the attack on Friday, September 19, was not directed at the airport itself, but at a third-party supplier of passenger service systems.
"Due to a technical fault in the supplier's system, which is used throughout Europe, the waiting time for check-in has increased. We are working to quickly resolve the problem," they said.
Brussels Airport confirmed that it was also affected by the attack. Due to the incident, only manual check-in is available.
"Passengers are advised to check the status of their flight directly with the airline and arrive at the airport in advance," the administration stressed.
London's Heathrow Airport also reported possible delays, but attributed the incident to a "technical issue" with a third-party supplier. It is not yet known which other European airports have been affected.
