EU can accelerate rejection of russian gas by replacing it with American LNG - US Secretary of Energy
US Secretary of Energy Chris Wright believes that the European Union is able to completely abandon imports of russian gas within twelve months.
This is reported by The Moscow Times with reference to the material of the Reuters agency.
Speaking at an event in Brussels, Wright said that the European Union may need from six to twelve months to abandon russian gas. The bloc can replace gas from russia with liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States.
He added that for this the European Union needs to amend the legislation on methane. It is an obstacle to the import of American LNG.
Reuters writes that the accelerated rejection of russian gas by the EU is possible. But this requires the intervention of the United States, which is able to ensure the redirection of supplies of American LNG.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on September 5, European Commissioner for Energy Dan Jørgensen said that the EU's plan to abandon russian oil remains in force.
Recall, in June of this year it became known that two members of the European Union oppose a complete abandonment of russian gas imports.
