EU says bloc's plan to abandon russian oil remains in force

European Energy Commissioner Dan Jørgensen said that the European Union's plan to completely abandon oil from the aggressor country russia remains in force.

According to The Moscow Times, Jørgensen said this in an interview with Reuters.

According to him, the European Union intends to continue to adhere to the plan, which provides for a phased abandonment of russian oil by 2028.

Jørgensen added that he had not faced personal pressure from the US presidential administration to accelerate the abandonment of oil from russia. At the same time, the European Commissioner noted that he would welcome Washington's support in implementing this plan.

He also said that he was in talks with officials from the governments of Hungary and Slovakia. Both countries continue to import russian oil. Jørgensen emphasized that the European Union may approve a plan to abandon oil from russia without the consent of Budapest and Bratislava.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in July of this year, Reuters wrote, citing its own sources, that the European Union is likely to keep secret a plan to abandon oil and gas from russia.

As we recall, in May of this year, BBC News wrote that since the beginning of the russian federation's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the world has paid moscow EUR 833 billion for the sale of energy resources.
