Zelenskyy expresses condolences over tragedy on funicular in Lisbon

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed condolences over the accident on the Glória funicular in Lisbon (Portugal), which resulted in dozens of deaths.

He wrote about this on X.

Zelenskyy said that he was "deeply saddened" by the tragic accident on the Glória funicular in Lisbon, which resulted in dozens of deaths and more than 25 injuries.

"Deeply saddened by the tragic accident with Glória elevator in Lisbon, which caused dozens of fatalities and left more than 25 people injured. On behalf of the Ukrainian people, I extend heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, to President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, Prime Minister Luís Montenegro, and we wish a speedy recovery to those injured. In this time of grief, we remain in prayer and solidarity with Portuguese people mourning the loss," the message said.

As a reminder, on September 3, it became known that at least 15 people were killed and several were injured as a result of a funicular derailment in Lisbon, Portugal. It connects the center of Lisbon with the Bairro Alto district and is often used by both residents and tourists.
