Polish President arrives at White House to meet Trump: first statements

Today, September 3, Polish President Karol Nawrocki arrived at the White House to meet with US President Donald Trump.

This is reported by The Guardian.

Trump welcomed his guest, saying that "he had an incredible race" and "came from behind" to win it "very handily" in what he says was a "pretty tough, pretty nasty race."

"I don't endorse too many people, but I endorsed him, and I was very proud of that the job he's done," Trump said of Nawrocki.

Nawrocki thanked him for his support during the election campaign and welcomed "strong" relations with the United States, paying tribute to the Polish diaspora in the country.

They also paid tribute to the Polish F-16 pilot who died last week, Major Maciej "Slab" Krakowian, whom Trump calls a "legend."

In addition, as part of the official reception, the two leaders are also expected to watch a military parade from the Southern Lawn, which is reported to include F-16s and F-35s.

According to Polish media reports, the F-16s are taking part in the parade to honor the memory of a Polish fighter pilot who died in a tragic crash at an air show in Poland last week.

During the meeting, when asked about the US military presence in Poland and whether American troops would remain there, Trump replied:

"I think so. I mean, do you know something I don't? [I'm] very happy. If anything, we can put more there, if they want; they've long wanted to have a larger presence. We have some countries that have more, not too many, but no, they will be staying in Poland. We are very much aligned with Poland."
