Russia reports "downed drone" near Kursk NPP: transformer damaged
On the night of August 24, a Ukrainian drone was allegedly shot down near the Kursk NPP, according to the russian side.
This was reported by the company Rosenergoatom from the aggressor country.
According to them, during the fall of the UAV, an explosion occurred, which led to damage to the transformer. A local fire broke out, which was managed to be eliminated. As a result of the incident, power unit No. 3 reduced its capacity by 50%. No victims or injured were recorded.
Currently, according to the russian company, only the third power unit is operating at the Kursk NPP, the fourth is undergoing scheduled repairs, and the first and second are operating without generation. The radiation background at the station and around it, they claim, remains within the natural norm.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said it had received media reports of a fire at the Kursk nuclear power plant, but it had no independent confirmation at this time.
"Every nuclear facility must be protected at all times," IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi stressed.
As a reminder, in March of this year, the russians had already spread a fake about Ukraine allegedly preparing a provocation at the Kursk nuclear power plant.
