NSDC denies fake about "1.7 million killed Ukrainian soldiers"

False information is being spread online about the alleged "1.7 million killed and missing servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine" during russia's full-scale invasion. The fake is being spread by propaganda resources controlled by the kremlin, claiming that russian hackers "hacked the database of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine".

The Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council has reported this.

As noted, Ukraine has never had an army of 1.7 million people. According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, as of January 2025, the number of the Armed Forces was about 880,000 servicemen.

In addition, the head of state emphasized that the losses of the russian army are three times higher than those of the Ukrainian one. According to official data from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as of August 20, 2025, russia has lost more than 1,072,700 military personnel killed and wounded.

Experts emphasize that the purpose of spreading such fakes is an attempt to demoralize Ukrainian society, create the impression of the "exhaustion" of the Ukrainian army, and reduce the level of international support for Ukraine.

We will remind you that russian propaganda also spread a fake about the alleged preparation by the Ukrainian Defense Forces of "a series of strikes on Kramatorsk" in order to blame the russian army for them. This is a typical technique of the aggressor state of russia to justify its war crimes.
