Drones attack plant producing synthetic sapphire for sights and thermal imagers in Stavropol
On the night of August 12, explosions were heard in Stavropol, russia. Local sources report that the drones may have hit the Monocrystal enterprise, the only russian manufacturer of artificial sapphire used in sights, thermal imagers, missile systems and other high-tech developments.
The governor of the Stavropol Oblast, Vladimir Vladimirov, has reported this.
The region claims that the drones were suppressed by electronic warfare means, however, according to local residents, windows were broken in one of the city's social facilities. There are no reports of casualties.
The target that the drones may have hit is the Monocrystal joint-stock company. This is a chemical industry enterprise that produces artificial sapphire for the optoelectronic industry. There is only one such enterprise in russia. Artificial sapphires produced here are used in optoelectronics, in particular for sights, thermal imagers, laser systems, in missile homing heads, UAV cameras, as well as in components of the aerospace, instrument-making and other high-tech industries.
Recall that on the night of August 11, several drones attacked an instrument-making plant in the russian city of Arzamas, Nizhny Novgorod Oblast. Local residents managed to capture the moment of the attack on video.
