Several hundred russian military personnel arrive in Belarus for training – State Border Guard Service of Ukraine
Spokesman of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine Andrii Demchenko reported that several hundred servicemen of the russian Armed Forces and several dozen units of equipment have now arrived in Belarus for joint military exercises planned for September.
He stated this during a telethon.
"We are talking about a conditionally several hundred servicemen of the Russian Armed Forces and several dozen units of equipment that have already arrived on the territory of Belarus. At the same time, we see that Belarus has also sent certain units, certain forces to Russia, where there are also sites where these exercises are to take place," he reported.
Demchenko noted that the intelligence units of both the Ministry of Defense and the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine are constantly monitoring the possible further arrival of russian units to the territory of Belarus in order to understand how many they will be able to use for these joint exercises, especially at sites in Belarus.
"Because in general, this direction is still threatening for us. We understand that during these exercises, provocations or further escalation of the security situation for our country cannot be ruled out," the spokesman for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine emphasized.
He added that currently, given the available forces, this is not a significant threat that could come from the territory of Belarus. In addition, the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine still does not note that any strike group has been formed or is being formed on the territory of Belarus.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in the meantime, the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine stated that Lukashenko is preparing the army to suppress protests. According to the draft of the new law "On Amendments to the Laws on Ensuring Military Security and Defense", the Belarusian army will receive broader powers, in particular regarding actions within the country.
