US Department of Defense and NATO create joint account for arms purchases for Ukraine - media

The Pentagon and NATO are developing a new mechanism for selling weapons to European allies, which will then be transferred to Ukraine.

This is reported by the authors of the CNN portal.

The mechanism involves creating a kind of "NATO bank account" where allies will be able to transfer funds for weapons purchases in the United States.

It is noted that this mechanism will work as follows: Ukraine will send NATO a list of necessary equipment, and the head of the US Joint Command in Europe and NATO operations, General Alexus Hrynkevich, will determine whether there are enough weapons in American stocks for sale before contacting European partners with a proposal to purchase them.

According to the publication's interlocutors, the allies intend to start by investing about UDS 10 billion in this account. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte reported that the allies have already pledged to provide more than USD 1 billion for arming Ukraine.

At the same time, some European countries have agreed to send their own stocks directly to Ukraine, waiting for replenishment from American stocks. For example, last week the United States agreed with Germany to transfer two American Patriot systems to Ukraine. In return, Berlin will purchase two new systems from the United States.
