European countries will pay for US weapons for Ukraine worth over USD 1 billion
Denmark, Norway, Sweden and the Netherlands have agreed to finance the transfer of US weapons to Ukraine worth more than USD 1 billion. US State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce announced this during a briefing.
According to her, Denmark, Norway and Sweden will allocate USD 500 million for an additional package of weapons from the US. The day before, the Netherlands announced that it would pay for the first package of US weapons and ammunition, including missiles for the Patriot air defense system, also worth more than USD 500 million.
"Together, these deliveries total over USD 1 billion of lifesaving, top-of-the-line American equipment that, as noted by Ambassador Whitaker, will allow Ukraine to, quote, 'protect critical infrastructure and civilian lives while also staying in the fight until a lasting ceasefire happens," Bruce said.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte welcomed the first package of American military equipment for Ukraine, agreed under NATO's new initiative "Priority Ukraine Requirements List" (PURL), which will be financed by the Netherlands.
