Gas imports to Ukraine increase 16 times to 833 million cubic meters per year

The volume of natural gas imports to Ukraine in July 2025 compared to July last year increased 16 times to 833 million cubic meters (July 2024 – 52 million cubic meters).

This is stated in the ExPro publication, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

In July, compared to June, Ukraine imported 1.5 times more gas (June – 539 million cubic meters).

The report states that the increase in natural gas imports in July is due to continued preparations for the next heating season in terms of pumping gas into underground storage facilities.

In July, the import structure changed, almost all gas was delivered to the "bonded warehouse" of Ukrainian underground storage facilities - 774 million cubic meters or 93% of all imports, of which 3.4 million cubic meters using the short-haul service.

In addition, about 59 million cubic meters (7%) were imported directly to the Ukrainian GTS.

In general, in 7 months of 2025, Ukraine increased the volume of natural gas imports by 13 times compared to the same period last year, to 2.93 billion cubic meters.

The majority of natural gas was imported by Naftogaz - almost 90%, private companies - over 10%.

According to the Minister of Energy of Ukraine Svitlana Hrynchuk, Ukraine's goal is to accumulate at least 13.2 billion cubic meters of natural gas in underground storage facilities by November 1.

According to ExPro estimates, to achieve the goal, it is necessary to import about 1.7 billion cubic meters of natural gas in August-October.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, as of July 13, according to ENTSO-G, the underground storage facilities already contained 4.05 billion cubic meters of active gas, or a total of about 8.5 billion cubic meters including buffer gas.
