Russian occupiers intensify attempts to surround Pokrovsk – British Defence Intelligence report

Russian ground forces are intensifying attempts to surround Pokrovsk in the Donetsk Region, a key Ukrainian logistics hub supporting operations in the Donbas.

This is stated in the daily report by military intelligence analysts of the Ministry of Defence of the United Kingdom.

"In the last week, RGF (russian ground forces – Ed.) have made incremental gains to the north east of Pokrovsk, seeking to circumvent and cut off its logistic routes and ground lines of communication. Th RGF have advanced west in the vicinity of the H-32 highway, notably towards the village of Rodynske, through which runs Pokrovsk's main northern supply route," the report says.

According to military intelligence, russian troops have also captured territory south of the highway, advancing near Myroliubivka.

"Open source reports on 22 July 2025 suggested Russian sabotage and reconnaissance groups had attempted to infiltrate into southern Pokrovsk, with Ukrainian forces subsequently conducting clearance operations," the report said.

According to British military intelligence, Pokrovsk was likely a priority target for russia since it captured Avdiivka in February 2024. Russian efforts against the fortified city resulted in heavy losses on the part of the russian federation, it said.
