A person should have the right not to go to military service – Michael McFaul on forced mobilization in Ukraine
Former US ambassador to the russian federation, and in the last three years – one of the authors of sanctions against russia Michael McFaul, commenting on the forced mobilization of men in Ukraine, said that, in his opinion, every person should have the right to refuse to go to war. He said this in an interview with journalist Yuri Dud.
"A person should have the right not to go to military service and do something else. In my country, during the Vietnam War, there were people who were called "conscientious objectors" and I respected these people. This should be part of civil society. I completely agree with this," said Michael McFaul.
He also added that he does not know the laws of Ukraine well enough to draw conclusions about whether such mobilization is legal.
As is known, since 2016, Michael McFaul has been under kremlin sanctions, including a ban on entering the territory of the occupying country, the russian federation.
It also became known the day before that the Basmanny District Court of moscow had arrested journalist Yuri Dud in absentia for two months in a case of evasion of duties as a foreign agent and had put him on the international wanted list.
