15 years after last order. France resumes production of SCALP cruise missiles

France has decided to resume production of long-range SCALP-EG air-to-ground cruise missiles this year. French Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu announced this on his page on X.

"The production of SCALP missiles to equip our armed forces will resume in 2025, 15 years after our last order. At the MBDA UK site in Stevenage with my colleague John Healy (UK Defense Minister), where part of these missiles are produced," Lecornu wrote.

He added that the Franco-British SCALP/Storm Shadow missiles delivered to Ukraine have demonstrated their effectiveness in modern high-intensity combat operations, in decisive situations.

"As a joint venture of France, the UK, Italy and Germany, MBDA is a symbol of Europe's leading defense industry," the minister summed up.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the United States is planning to spend USD 1.3 billion on the production of interceptor missiles for the MIM-104 Patriot air defense systems.

The US Army has also quietly quadrupled its total procurement of this air defense system.
